when setting up contacts, is there a link between contacts and users with a lims user account?
in other words , do I need to set up a lab or client contact for a registered user ?

Yes, so far this is the only and correct way to create registered users in Senaite.

That said, it is worth to know that it is planned to change the machinery for users creation: https://github.com/senaite/senaite.core/issues/374
