Hello world! I have the next problem: Some specific type of samples are analyzed following a standard method; which leaves behind lab waste. Nonetheless, as the client and method requires, the waste must be analyzed as well for making corrections (adjusting) the final result; some sort of mass balance. Does anyone know if it is possible to make Sub Samples for the waste product of the first analysis? And if so, on the Calculations section, is there a way to refer to the results of the Parent Sample in order to automatically calculate the final result?
Hi @diegoadrian
Does this fit your use case: 11.8 Secondary Testing of Samples — Bika LIMS
This could be a usecase for partitions.
- Create a sample with all analyses including calculated result.
- Create two partitions, one for the actual sample, another for the waste.
- Distribute the analyses to the two partitions
Calculations can refer to other analyses within the same sample, regardless of partitioning…
(This should not work easily, if you have doubled analyses.)
You can use analysis templates to do this automatically.
Calculations in secondary samples cannot refer to the parent, IIRC.

Thank you very much, I believe Partitioning would be the solution for this problem. As soon as I get it done, I will be sharing it right here. Thanks again!
